One of the best times of the year to get to know Fuerteventura is at Easter. Among the reasons for choosing such a significant holiday period are the pleasant temperatures and the low wind between March and April.
We owe the few winds to the fact that the Azores anticyclone has not yet moved far enough away, and therefore, the trade winds associated with the anticyclone are not very intense.
The beaches of the municipality of La Oliva are ideal for enjoying the transparent waters, taking long walks, relaxing, or simply contemplating a unique environment.
4 days to discover the northern beaches of Fuerteventura.
Day 1 – Relax on the beaches of El Cotillo
The first day, after leaving your bags at your accommodation and wandering around to find supermarkets and shops, it will be time to take sunscreen, a towel, a swimsuit, a sarong and beach shoes.
Forget stress and tiredness. We invite you to discover these beautiful coves away from the town of El Cotillo.
Esquinzo Beach
Esquinzo Beach is a small horseshoe-shaped cove, located at the mouth of the Esquinzo ravine, between the towns of Cotillo and Tindaya.
It is somewhat rocky, and its soil is made up of golden sand and pebbles. It measures just over 300 meters in length and its average width is close to 30 meters. It is flanked by high escarpments, which protect it from the rough sea and the prevailing winds. Here you can completely strip off your clothes and do nudism in total freedom.
Eagle Beach
A little closer to El Cotillo we find the Playa del Águila. It is a spectacular cove of white rocks and polished, ivory-colored sand, sandwiched between cliffs. The path that descends to the shore is an unstable brick staircase that starts from the cliff of the escarpment, but it is worth descending.
The beach has a length of 600 meters and an average width of 24 metres. It is one of the favorite beaches for those who practice nudism in the north of Fuerteventura.
Águila beach is somewhat windy and has strong waves. Take extreme precautions when you get into the water.
Day 2- Family beaches near El Cotillo
For the second day we propose the best beaches for families very close to El Cotillo.
From Piedra Playa to Los Mallorquines beach
At the foot of the Torre del Tostón, the beaches of El Castillo, Playa Aljibe de la Cueva and Playa de los Mallorquines come together and break down their barriers, offering visitors this piece of paradise. It looks like a single beach over 3 kilometers long.
It is a highly recommended area to enjoy surfing, sunsets, and long walks.
La Concha Beach
La Concha beach is one of the most visited beaches by families in the north of Fuerteventura. It is located less than a kilometer from El Cotillo, heading north. It has a length of 200 meters and a width of 50 meters. Its sand is white and the waves are gentle. This spectacular beach, with clear water, invites us to spend the whole day and enjoy its impressive sunsets.
Caleta del Marrajo
We continue our journey from El Cotillo heading north. We arrive at the Tostón Lighthouse. There, on both sides of the lighthouse, we can enjoy several coves, highly demanded by caravanists.
In Los Charcos, as almost all of us call the Caleta del Marrajo, is where you will find more space to park.
La Caleta del Marrajo has three consecutive coves, separated by natural walls. Its crystal clear waters, and its fine white sand, contrast with the black volcanic stone, making this part of the island one of the most photographed
Day 3 – Discover the wild beaches of the north of Fuerteventura
From Caleta del Marrajo to Corralejo, the coastal profile becomes capriciously abrupt, leaving, among the lava, beaches worth visiting.
If you want to know them, you just have to take a dirt track, suitable for cars, which starts from the lighthouse and reaches Corralejo.
Punta Blanca beach and Caleta Beatriz
The first two beaches you will see on that road are the beaches of Punta Blanca and Caleta Beatriz. Each one is just over 200 meters long. Its soils are white sand and rhodolites. They are surrounded by lava, which gives them a particular beauty.
Although its waters are crystal clear, they are somewhat wild. Bathing is only recommended in the areas protected by the coves. Beyond them strong currents dominate this part of the Atlantic.
Camping is allowed on both beaches.
Hierro Beach
Very close to Majanicho you will find El Hierro beach. Its wind conditions, the quality of its break and the regularity of its waves have made it one of the most desired beaches for surfers. The soil of Playa El Hierro is made up of rhodoliths.
Majanicho
Majanicho beach, nestled in the fishing settlement of the same name, is somewhat rustic. It is about 150 meters long and an average width of 20 meters.
Its waters are very calm, without waves or strong currents, ideal to go with children while they remain in its cove.
On the outskirts of Majanicho, strong currents and wind are the hallmarks of the area. Not in vain has it become a meeting point for surf lovers.
Bajo de la Burra beach.
The Bajo de la Burra or Caleta del Barco Beach is almost 500 meters long and an average width of about 10 meters. It is a beach that has become very popular because its soil is made up of rhodoliths.
The rhodoliths are calcareous algae originated under the seabed, which the currents have been bringing closer to the shore. They are shaped like popcorn (for canaries, cotufas o roscas), and for this reason it is better known as Popcorn beach
Day 4 – Enjoy the beach without giving up all the comforts
For the last day we propose a full day on the spectacular beaches of Corralejo. Along the more than 10 kilometers of coastline that borders Corralejo you will find the beach that best suits your needs.
In the same urban center you have half a dozen beaches, where you can spend the day with family or friends, without giving up comfort. The most notable are the beaches of Muelle Chico, Corralejo Viejo, La Goleta, Los Verelitos and Las Agujas.
In most of them you have all kinds of tourist facilities and services, from showers, rescue equipment and access for people with reduced mobility, to bars and restaurants where you can taste local food.
Cocktails can also be enjoyed well into the night.
The undisputed protagonists of this part of Fuerteventura are the extensive sandy beaches. There are more than 6 kilometers between Playa del Médano and Playa del Burro, passing through the Grandes Playas de Corralejo, all of which await you so that you can feel the fine golden sand under your feet and enjoy its crystal clear waters.
