GITU MAHTANI

Our next artist is Gitu Mahtani, vitalist and versatile, who settled in Fuerteventura more than three decades ago. She came to the island when she got married, back in 1991.

Gitu, of Hindu origin, was born in Hong Kong. She tells us that she always liked to be an active part in the social events of her community. She made decorations for temples at Hindu and Hong Kong festivals.

Take advantage of a unique experience...

She plunged fully into the exciting world of painting when her daughter went to college. Although she is self-taught, and has always liked to paint, she felt the need to perfect her technique. For this, she participated in several art and fusion workshops given in Fuerteventura, learning from the artists who attended.

Her concern to move forward has led her to continue training by attending talks, reading articles, and watching videos online.

The main theme of her first works, were spiritual paintings, where she expressed the transformation that was happening inside her. she exhibited at the CC el Campanario and the CC Las Rotondas.

GITU MAHTANI

Gitu Mahtani’s paintings are intimate as well as poetic.  Inspired by simplicity, tranquility and the intense light around us.

Through the landscapes but, above all, the sea, she makes us travel and reflect on the transcendence and the ephemerality of everyday life.

Waves suspended in the air, or tides that will never wash away that heart traced in the sand, are some of his most emotional scenes.

She paints in acrylic on canvas and wood, recycles wooden pallets, uses sand in her creations. If you want to buy any of her paintings, you can do so by going to the market in the Campanario shopping center in Corralejo on Thursdays and Sundays.
