Where to camp or stay overnight in Fuerteventura?

Tourists are amazed by the number of motorhomes that circulate in Fuerteventura. many search unsuccessfully for a campsite. However, they do not know that there are no traditional campsites in Fuertevenura. Although it may seem incongruous, it is not. In the mindset of the motorhome arriving to the island, what prevails is freedom of movement and direct contact with nature, rather than the comforts of the campsites.

Camping Vs staying overnight.

Before spending the night on one of our wonderful beaches, you have to be very clear about the difference between camping and spending the night in Fuerteventura. Because camping outside the indicated sites is not allowed and carries fines and financial penalties.

Staying Overnight:

You will be able to sleep or eat in your vehicle without being fined, if you are well parked. If the vehicle is only in contact with the ground through the wheels. It does not take up more space than that of the closed motorhome (without open windows, tables, chairs, extended awnings …). There is no emission or fluid. If you stay overnight, you can open the skylights, of the camper or motorhome, as long as they do not exceed the perimeter of the vehicle.

It is considered to be camping:

What are the camping areas in Fuerteventura?

Although the camping areas are published each year, they have not changed much for a long time.

In the municipality of Pájara you have a wide variety of beaches where camping is allowed: Puerto Rico, Baja Gómez, Tabaibejo, La Jaqueta, Guerepe, Ugán, La Solapa, Garcey, Bigocho, and Puerto Nuevo.

In the municipality of Puerto del Rosario: Playa Blanca and Puerto Lajas.
Playa Blanca is one of the best urban beaches in the capital of Fuerteventura. It is located just 1.5 kilometers from the town center and is a meeting point for surfers. In Puerto Lajas you will be on the edge of a typical and quiet fishing village, where you can enjoy the tranquility, but also the local bars.

In the municipality of La Oliva, camping is allowed on four of its beaches, which are: Caleta Beatriz, Punta Blanca and Mararía or María Díaz, located between Majanicho and the Tostón lighthouse. You can also camp in La Caleta, very close to El Jablito.

The municipality of Antigua is the only one in Fuerteventura that has a “rustic” campsite, in Pozo Negro, with toilets, showers, water and electricity. It has a total of 70 places for caravans and huts.

Where to empty dirty water and provide clean water for the motorhome in Fuerteventura?

At the DISA petrol station, located near the airport, the emptying of dirty water is allowed free of charge. The water filling for the motorhome is by tokens. It’s a little less than 1 euro per 40 litres

In the La Oliva service area you can also discharge gray water and fill clean water. You have to pay 3 euros.

To conclude, point out that, currently due to the health alert, caused by Covid-19, camping is not allowed in Fuerteventura. You can only stay overnight.
