Located in the south of the island, and forming part of the isthmus of Jandía, Costa Calma, has a wide range of leisure and active tourism. Although the population is concentrated in the leeward area of the island, that is, on the east side, the town extends to the opposite shore. Here you can enjoy spectacular beaches for all tastes. The beaches of the east coast of Costa Calma are characterized by the turquoise colors of the sea, the large extensions of its sandbanks, and for being ideal places for practicing water sports. They are the most photographed in the area and, of course, the most shared on Instagram, Facebook and any other social network.
The limit of Costa Calma, towards the south, is settled right by the Pecenescal Valley. It encompasses La Barca beach, part of Risco del Paso beach, and the urban beach of Costa Calma. Costa Calma Beach
The urban beach of Costa Calma forms a wide bay more than 2 kilometers long. It extends from Punta de los Molinillos to the Risco del Gato urbanization.
This beach of fine golden sand is somewhat windy during certain times of the year, but the sea remains calm. It has clean and transparent waters, which make its funds attractive for snorkelling, windsurfing or other water sports. Let’s not forget that the south of Fuerteventura is considered one of the emblematic places, worldwide, for the practice of windsurf and kitesurfing.
The low unevenness and more than 40 meters wide, which in some areas exceeds a hundred, make this enclave a safe environment to enjoy long walks. You will always have enough space to maintain, with the other walkers, the 2 meters of safety distance recommended by the WHO, due to COVID.
It is common to see people jogging or doing Nordic walking on the beach of Costa Calma. This last sport has been experiencing a great boom on the island for a few years. This is because Fuerteventura is one of the most popular destinations for tourists from northern Europe, where they are very fond of this sport.
Costa Calma beach has, to the south, several charming coves, sheltered by small natural volcanic rock cliffs. These spaces are ideal for nudism. The beach has many services, such as rental of umbrellas, hammocks, and even boats. It has a playground, a sports area and a beach bar.
Agualiques beach.
Agualiques Beach is located on the windward coast of the island, about 3 kilometers from the town of Costa Calma. Its spectacular jables formations and fossilized dunes make of this beach a unique landscape.
The Agualiques sandbanks are completely cemented, giving the area a very particular aspect. So much so, that it has filmed sequences of various episodes of the Star Wars saga, specifically the films “Han Solo” and “The Rise of Skywalker.”
Bathing on Agualiques beach is very dangerous. We have already warned in other articles on this blog, the precautions that must be taken when visiting the west coast of Fuerteventura. So, be extremely cautious and stay close to the shore.
How to get to Agualiques Beach?
Access to Agualiques beach is easy. Its route can be done both on foot and by bike. It is suitable for all ages and physical conditions.
The fastest way to get to Agualiques is from Costa Calma. Just behind the soccer field there is an urbanization that adjoins the highway. Look for the metal fence that lines the road. There you will see an underpass that runs through it. From this point it is already easy to get to Agualiques beach.
There are many trails that take you to the coast, but in order not to get lost it is better to take a wide dirt track that runs parallel to the wind farm, and that will take you, in less than an hour, to the windward coast
Can you do nudism on the beaches of Costa Calma?
Yes. Whether you visit the windward or leeward beaches of Costa Calma, in this town, you will have no problems practicing nudism.
Is there a lifeguard service on the beaches of Costa Calma?
The beaches located near town center of Costa Calma do have a permanent surveillance service, and a rescue and first aid station. However, the beaches of Costa Calma, located in the windward area, do not have this type of service. Keep in mind that getting to the area by vehicle involves great difficulty and that in the event of an accident, the emergency services would have to travel several kilometers. So we ask you, earnestly, not to put your life in danger, or that of others.
